Introduction

We're continuing our series on downgrade options for credit cards from different banks. This time, we're focusing on Barclays (see our previous posts on Chase, Capital One, Amex, and Citi).

Downgrade Rules for Barclays Credit Cards

Same Family: You can only downgrade within the same card family or brand.
Personal to Business: You can only downgrade personal cards to personal cards and business cards to business cards. Barclays business cards generally do not offer downgrade options.
Not Always Available: Downgrades are not guaranteed and depend on eligibility. It's recommended to ask for a supervisor, as they may have more flexibility in processing downgrades even when a front-line representative cannot.
Annual Fee Refund: If you downgrade or close a Barclays card within 60 days of when your annual fee was charged, Barclays will refund the full annual fee amount.

Tip: Using your Barclays card frequently may improve your eligibility for a downgrade.

Downgrade Options for Barclays Credit Cards

JetBlue Plus Card ($99): Can be downgraded to the JetBlue Card ($0) upon eligibility.
Barclays AAdvantage Aviator World Elite Mastercard ($99): Can be downgraded to the Barclays AAdvantage Aviator ($0) upon eligibility.
Barclaycard Arrival Plus ($89) - No longer available for new applicants: Can be downgraded to the Barclaycard Arrival ($0) upon eligibility.
Barclays Wyndham Earner Plus ($75): Can be downgraded to the Wyndham Rewards Earner Card ($0) upon eligibility.
JetBlue Business ($99): No downgrade option available.
Barclays Advantage Aviator Business ($95): No downgrade option available.

Apple Card	TransUnion	They will first only do a soft pull to check if you qualify. If you qualify and accept the offer, then they do a hard pull. Some have had success avoiding the hard pull by freezing TransUnion after the preapproval but before the final decision.
