Application Declined? If your Amex application was declined, you can ask for reconsideration within 30 days without a new credit check, or up to 90 days with a new one. When you call, you can ask to move credit from another Amex card or close an old card to get the new one. If they need a tax return, send what you have—it doesn't need to match your stated income. A bank statement might work too.
Approval Rules: American Express follows a maximum of 2 card approvals within 90 days, known as the 2/90 Rule. You can hold up to 5 credit cards, excluding No Preset Spending Limit cards, with a limit of 10 such cards. Additionally, you are allowed one Platinum variant every 90 days.
When applying for a new credit card, keep your balances below 10% of your limit on each existing card. Pay down balances and wait for each card's closing date, avoiding new charges. Some banks let you update balances anytime by phone, and Chase will automatically report a $0 balance after payment.

Considerations
Looking for the perfect card for your business needs? The American Express Blue Business® Plus offers some great benefits, but like any card, it also has its drawbacks. Here’s a quick look at some potential cons to consider:
- Limited Cashback Options: Redeeming points for cashback provides less value compared to other redemption methods.
- High Annual Fees for Better Redemption Rates: Optimal point redemption rates require holding other high-fee Amex cards.
- Complex Benefits Structure: Maximizing card benefits and rewards can be confusing and require holding multiple Amex cards.
- Lower Travel Redemption Value: Points are worth less when redeemed for travel options other than flights through Amex Travel.
- Specific Airline Bonus Limitations: Bonus points back on flights are restricted to bookings on a pre-selected airline.
Keep these in mind when deciding if the American Express Blue Business® Plus is the right card for your business wallet.
